Jay-Z and Beyonce Go to Cuba, Forget That Americans Hate Cuba
“Welcome to Havana; Smoking cubanos with Castro in cabanas” is a line that probably endured Jay-Z to Cubans, and it might also describe how he spent his weekend. Jay-Z and his wife Beyonce were celebrating their 5th wedding anniversary and decided to pop down to Cuba, site of the Cuban Missile Crisis that USSR used to terrorize USA / almost ended the world back in the 1960s. Despite Cuba being a tourist destination for us Canadians, Americans require special permission from the government (via Billboard).
I’m assuming since President Obama records video messages for Jay-Z’s music festivals, it shouldn’t be a problem? A couple of no good Republican members of Congress have gone as far to ask the US treasury department to confirm that the musical couple have permission to make the trip. They’re fuckin’ Jay-Z and Beyonce – they do what they want!
Snoop Lion Doesn’t Think Homosexuality Will Ever Be Accepted in Rap Culture
If television and movies have taught me anything, it’s that humping an apple pie is just like sex both rappers and the mafia do not like homosexuals. Snoop Lion / Snoop Dogg was commenting on Frank Ocean’s coming out last year, noting how he doesn’t think it’ll ever be acceptable in rap music. Snoop tells the Guardian, “Frank Ocean ain’t no rapper. He’s a singer. It’s acceptable in the singing world, but in the rap world I don’t know if it will ever be acceptable because rap is so masculine. It’s like a football team. You can’t be in a locker room full of motherfucking tough-ass dudes, then all of a sudden say, ‘Hey, man, I like you.’ You know, that’s going to be tough.”
Snoop himself doesn’t hate gays, which is obviously a nice thing: “I don’t have a problem with gay people. I got some gay homies. Yeah, for real. People who were gay used to get beat up. It was cool to beat up on gay people back then. But in the 90s and 2000s, gay is a way of life. Just regular people with jobs. Now they are accepted, not classified. They just went through the same things we went through as black.”

Stream! MS MR – Secondhand Rapture
We’ve featured MS MR several times on this site during the build up to their album. And what better climax than to
eat your weight in candystream the entire album. The debut album, Secondhand Rapture, is now streaming below. The album features singles Hurricane, Bones, and Fantasy, plus songs Dark Doo Wop and Ash Tree Lane from their EP. Although not on the album, they’ve been remixed by the likes of Kele from Bloc Party, CHVRCHES, and Twin Shadow. Not bad, but I once ate a sandwich named after David Letterman – top that. Check out the debut from MS MR below.

Justin Bieber Fan Wants a Hug, Instead We Get Chaos on Stage
Justin Bieber with the lead headline – this blog has gone to the dogs. Don’t worry, we’ll post more great songs today to make up for it (note: not necessarily true). Anyway, the Biebs was in Dubai playing his live show and some fan decided they wanted to get up close and personal during the show. They either bribed security and found a way past these rocket scientists and managed to get on stage. As they ran at Bieber, so did some security guards, and down went the piano. Amazingly – the fallen piano kept playing by itself – I need one of those so I can become a musician, too!
I should give credit where credit is due – Bieber brushed off the incident and kept singing and didn’t make a fuss. Check it out below, and watching the rest of the song after the incident is not required or even recommended.
Lauren Hill Writes a Tune for the Tax Man
Lauren Hill has a deadline at the end of next week to pay the taxes she evaded on her $1.8 Million in earnings from 2005-2007. She has been given a lifeline by Sony to launch some new music and stay out of jail. She released a new track, which she finished earlier than planned in order to help pay the bills. She writes on the YouTube description for the track Neurotic Society:
“Here is a link to a piece that I was ‘required’ to release immediately, by virtue of the impending legal deadline. I love being able to reach people directly, but in an ideal scenario, I would not have to rush the release of new music… but the message is still there.”
The track has a ton of lyrics, often delivered rapid fire style. Check out the latest from tax dodger Lauren Hill below.

Listen! MS MR – Fantasy (Kele from Bloc Party Remix)
New York duo MS MR have slowly revealed their identity over the past year, and hooray – they’re Lizzy and Max, whoever they are. However, MS MR have been deserving of some of the hype, with great tracks like Fantasy, Hurricane, and Dark Doo Wop, to name a few. Of course, they released these tracks on Tumblr – how 21st century.
Their debut album will be out in May, and they roped in someone special to remix Fantasy –
Pete from PeteHatesMusic!Kele from Bloc Party. The track, like a lot of remixes do, takes on that club feel, with a thumping bottom end. It sounds like Kele had some fun with this one. Check it out below.Listen! MS MR – Fantasy
Something new from New York duo MS MR, who previously gave us a trickle of tracks on their Tumblr. The track is the new single from their upcoming debut album.
The song is Fantasy, and it’s upbeat, exciting and catchy (which describes nothing about me or my life). The lyric “My reality can never live up to my fantasy” just about sums up all of all depressing lives, doesn’t it? Sorry, I forgot to take my meds this morning. Check out MS MR and brighten up your day.
Listen! MS MR – Hurricane (Twin Shadow Remix)
Twin Shadow has had a busy year. Besides releasing his fairly good second album, George has remixed a few people. First up was Solange, and now he applies his touch to MS MR.
The original version of Hurricane is pretty good, but how does Twin Shadow’s touch affect the remixed version? It’s a little more haunted at times, a little more weird (see: comical vocal edits and layers near the beginning of the song), and unfortunately not as good as the original. But it’s still listenable, which is always a quality you want in a song. It gets better as it evolves though, and George even busts out a rendition of the chorus near the end. Check out the remix below.
Watch! MS MR – Ash Tree Lane
Another new video from the Tumblr of MS MR. The band’s EP, Candy Bar Creep Show, is out now, but that hasn’t stopped MS MR from their plan of a new video each week.
The song starts off with a spoken word, spooky intro, like something from Thriller or Unsolved Mysteries. The video features a montage of scary images and movie clips which will definitely give me nightmares tonight. Check it out below.

Watch! MS MR – Dark Doo Wop
Off of the Tumblr of MS MR comes another song by them. Although we knew little about them, we knew we liked their first track, Hurricane. Now we have the finger-snappin’ Dark Doo Wop, which lives up to its name.
The track is from their EP, Candy Bar Creep Show, which is out today and is not the kind of candy bars I typically enjoy. If you pop on over to their Tumblr, you can check out some other videos. Each week, a new video will show up there, as well as an official remix
and pictures of fluffy cats!Check out the MS MR video for Dark Doo Wop below.MS MR – Dark Doo Wop

Listen! MS MR – Hurricane
New York MS MR like CAPS LOCK. MS MR have also been sitting in my Inbox, being ignored by other incoming emails stacking on top of them. They deserve better, as the track is fantastic. And that’s about all the info I have – their Tumblr doesn’t help, their Bandcamp page has this very song and nothing else. Oh – they’re building anticipation! Well, I’m biting – let’s hear some more! Make your ears happy and check out Hurricane by MS MR below.

UPDATE – there is now a video, literally hours after I decided to post the SoundCloud. That’s what I get for delaying the original post. Fuck you, karma!
