Morning Music Notes – stream Linkin Park’s new album

Linkin Park streams new album online. Respect.
Linkin Park just keeps on going. Every time they release an album, I want to hate it… I mean, they’re a 1996 rap-rock-metal fusion band – I should HATE this! But, every time they release an album, I always listen, and always end up saying – damn it! That sounds really cool…
Credit where it is due for a band that has done their own thing for 16 years, and keep on pushing the sonic sound of guitar music forward. Today, the band is streaming their new album on iTunes. Give it a listen. We definitely will.

Spotify Launches Web Radio
If you dig Pandora, you’ll dig this. It’s a new free Spotify online radio service that industry-types are calling “trouble for Pandora”. Pretty funny how nobody is talking about its effect on terrestrial radio – but an interesting read on a new service from a major player.

Morning Music Notes – Holograms Reclaim Coolness After Years of Star Trek Shame

Tupac Shakur and Nate Dogg to “Appear” with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg at Coachella

If the rumours are true, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg are putting on a show for the ages. Besides having the coveted Sunday night headlining slot at this weekend’s Coachella festival, and with guest appearances from Eminem, Wiz Khalifa and Warren G, reports say that deceased rappers Tupac Shakur and Nate Dogg will appear via hologram for one song each (via NME). Tupac will join Dr. Dre for California Love, while Nate Dogg will join him for The Next Episode. Because the rumour has hit the public, if this doesn’t happen now, I’m pretty sure the crowd will undeservedly be pissed. If this hologram thing takes off, can we perhaps have a Beatles reunion, say Coachella 2013? Think about it.

Perhaps You Are Doing Something Wrong When the President of the United States Calls You a Jackass

Despite a tanking economy, conflicts in various countries, and unemployment problems in the USA, President Barack Obama had time to weigh in on his opinion of Kanye West, and Kanye vs. Jay-Z. Previously, President Obama had called Kanye West a jackass, and apparently he still stands by this decision (via Yahoo). In an interview with the Atlantic, Obama was asked if he was a Jay-Z guy or a Kanye guy. “Jay-Z … although I do like Kanye. He’s a Chicago guy, smart. He’s very talented.” The reporter followed up with, “Even though you called him a jackass?” “He is a jackass,” Obama replied. “But he’s talented.”

Good luck sleeping tonight, Kanye.

Morning Music Notes – U2 Documentary at TIFF, Pearl Jam Copies Idea

U2 Documentary To Debut at TIFF

It looks like love U2 will be rolling into town; that town being Toronto. This September, when you are planning your Halloween costume, U2 will be in Toronto, according to Rolling Stone, debuting their documentary From the Sky Down. The documentary was done by Davis Guggenheim, who has done such films as An Inconvenient Truth and Waiting for Superman, and will play at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, for those who need to shorten everything). The documentary is about the making of the epic 1991 album, Achtung Baby. Achtung Baby will be re-released and expanded this year, to celebrate it’s 20th year of gracing our ears on repeat.

Pearl Jam Won’t Be Outdone by U2

Pearl Jam also has a special 20th anniversary this year. They liked U2′s “documentary playing at the Toronto International Film Festival” idea, and decided to copy it. They might have one-upped U2 by landing Cameron Crowe to direct the flick, which highlights the band’s 20 years of existence. Pearl Jam even gave us a little teaser trailer. Your move, U2.

50 Cent Cancels An Album, Linkin Park Marks Progress on Their Album

In news that is bound to upset nobody, 50 Cent has attempted to win a power struggle with his label delayed his Black Magic (“Blagic”?) album, reports Gigwise.

For every Yin, there is a Yang. Gigwise also reports that Linkin Park is working with Rick Rubin on a follow up to A Thousand Suns. Linkin Park expects the album to come out next year, and will hopefully not make every single song sound exactly the same.

Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never Makes Anthony Kiedis Cry…?! What the F?

When Rick Rubin isn’t helping Linkin Park record an album (NAILING IT with the segues today!), he hangs (and does albums) with Anthony Kiedis of the Chili Peppers. On a recent flight together, they both suffered through watched the documentary about Justin Bieber, called Never Say Never. In almost unbelievable news, Spinner notes that Anthony Kiedis admits to Q Magazine to having cried – TWICE – while watching it. And NOT because he genuinely hated it – because it moved him.

“They were doing this very cheesy giveaway of concert tickets to 16-year-old girls. The cheesiness didn’t matter — it was the reaction of the kids. When you saw those little girls crying deliriously, I lost it.”

But the Red Hot rocker wasn’t the only one brought to tears at the sight of the Bieber Fever footage. Anthony added, “I decided to tell Rick afterwards and he said, ‘I was also sobbing during that point in the movie.’

Amy Winehouse Re-Enters Rehab Billboard’s Top 10

As I said before, nothing will help your album a lot more than death. Amy Winehouse’s recent death helped proved this. Billboard notes that Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black album came in at Number 9 this past week, with 37,000 albums sold. Interestingly, 95% of those sales were digital. Her first album, Frank, moved 8,000 albums, enough for 57th spot on the list.

“There were more Winehouse albums purchased in past week (ending July 24) — 55,000 — than during the first six months of the year. Through the week ending July 17, her catalog had shifted 44,000 copies.”

If Amy’s unfinished third album comes out, does anything think it won’t be number 1?

It Ain’t Much – That’s Why It’s a Preview

As previously report, Damon Albarn (from every band under the sun) is leading a team of musicians and producers in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Their goal? To build the ultimate music robot To record a record (different pronunciations!) in a week, with proceeds going to Oxfam.

A short snippet to whet your appetites is down below. If they were recording in Australia, I could’ve used the cliched “recording Down Under”. Ah, I’m left with no puns! I will see how long this Congo on – HA – I did it, Dad!

Morning Music Notes – Cone Bras are Making a Comeback

Lincoln Linkin Park have said that their next release will polarize people. This is a far cry from their usual releases, which everyone agrees are terrible.

Metallica are set to release an album with Lou Reed from the Velvet Underground. The two artists collaborated in October 2008 and have been BFFs ever since. Early reports indicated that the album will be available for free via Napster. Napster jokes – really? What’s next, jokes about Madonna and her cone bra?

Cone bra-wearing artist Madonna will be recording her 12th studio album. Madonna has stated that “I need to sweat …I’m on the lookout for the maddest, sickest, most badass people to collaborate with. I’m just saying.” Badass Pete I have not returned any phone calls from Madonna’s representatives. I’m making her sweat, just as desired.

A man claims to have shot Tupac back in 1994. This is man is not the Notorious BIG, as he is also dead and cannot do confessions from beyond the grave….or can he – Zombie Man! Tupac would have been 40 today, and also would have released WAY less music than if he had lived.

Glastonbury is this weekend, and will be headlined for the first time by U2. Full band list and schedule can be found here. For those who cannot attend, I cannot provide a link to enhance your sad lives. Or can I??

What do you get when you combine a harmonica with a USB drive? It’s not a trick question – you get a playable harmonica usb drive.
