Listen! Angel Haze – Shut the Fuck Up

This is Round 3 of a bout with no scheduled end. In one corner, we have New Yorker Azealia Banks. In the other corner, we have disputed New Yorker, Angel Haze. The twitter war of yesterday resulted in a diss track from Angel Haze. Earlier today, we got the response track from Azealia Banks.

Three or so hours later, Angel Haze is back with her response to the response track. Let’s have none of this Tupac/Biggie violence shit – let’s keep it to diss tracks. I want a chance to see Azealia Banks before I have to see Hologram Azealia Banks at Coachella.

Angel-Shut-the-Fuck-Up

Angel Haze said “you get an unmastered diss…you aint worth my studio time,” as well as “Done. Last diss track you’ll ever hear from me. Later. Back to living my great ass life.” Angel Haze makes fun of her for being a Twitter personality. Burn? “To be honest, I really wanted to like you, but you ugly, and you lame and your flow is all recycled.” Okay – Burn! Check it out below.

Morning Music Notes – Even The Dead Are Dying

The Hologram of Dead Tupac Is Now Dead

Dr. Dre caused a stir at Coachella this year, when Dr. Dre brought Tupac back to life in hologram form. And as he rose, he will fall and seemingly never exist again – the company behind the hologram Tupac has filed for bankruptcy (via Consequence of Sound). The company, Digital Domain Media Group, was around for 20 years and also did special effects for movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Titanic. And here I thought that Titanic was filmed using actual footage from 1912. I guess this means no holograms of Elvis, Freddie Mercury, and John Lennon. Any one else not sad about this?

Woman Beater Chris Brown Gets Tattoo of Beaten Woman

The headline for this story would be poetic if it didn’t involve beating women and woman beater, Chris Brown. The douche bag that is Chris Brown showed up with a fresh new tattoo – on his neck – of what appears to be what Rihanna looked like after he Mike Tyson’ed her while they were dating. WHY?????????????? It’s not exactly a badge of honour. And it won’t exactly endure you to future women who are begging to be the next one beaten by you – or will it?

Chris Brown’s rep has denied the tattoo is of a beaten woman, although it looks eerily like one. “His tattoo is a sugar skull (associated with the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead) and a MAC cosmetics design he saw,” Brown’s rep told TMZ. “It is not Rihanna or an abused woman as erroneously reported,” (via MTV). It should be noted that Chris Brown’s rep is Stevie Wonder, and hasn’t actually seen the tattoo.

Another New Live Radiohead Song!

Any time Radiohead are making music, my world is a better place. And after Tuesday’s show in Cincinnati, USA, Radiohead have played another new song, called Full Stop. On their previous North American leg of the tour they also played several new songs, Identikit and Cut a Hole.

Full Stop has emerged online, and the fanboy in me desperately wants to listen to it. However, after obsessing over their new live songs and then hearing drastically altered studio versions, I am resisting. This is harder than the time I gave up sex (and by gave up, I meant gave up being rejected by girls). Okay, I started to listen – but it’s SO very quiet since it’s from their soundcheck, and it borders on pointless on posting. However, give your ears a test and listen to it below.

Morning Music Notes – LOLcats and Fleet Foxes, Together at Last

Yes, This is True: Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold to Write Soundtrack for LOLcats Movie

The phenomenon known as LOLcats will be hitting the big screens – that’s the first weird part of this story. The movie, supposedly titled The Internet – A Blog Cats WTF Universe, will tell the tale of a crisis “experienced by “one of the best LOLCat caption writers in the world” (via Consequence of Sound).

The second weird thing is that fundraising is coming by a Kickstarter campaign. This in itself isn’t weird, but it’s a big website and part of a big network of websites – surely they can find some pocket change. Also noted on the Kickstarter page is ” It is mainly a live-action film but there are going to be animations that explore some of the themes and dialogue in the movie, as well as an epic animated God creature that really needs the love of a talented 3d animator. Sean’s brother and frequent collaborator Robin is on board to score the film, and we would love to be able to pay him for his time and talent.”

This leads to the third weird thing. The aforementioned Sean is Sean Pecknold, and his brother Robin is Robin Pecknold, lead singer of Fleet Foxes. This means that LOLcats is getting a score done by big indie band, Fleet Foxes (well, just their singer). I’m not sure how deep his lyrics and songs will be, but check out the promo video below to see how the film might look, and listen to what is presumably some snippets of Robin playing the guitar.

Check Out The Ottawa Bluesfest Lineup

July 4-15 will see blues fans (and mainly NON-blues fans) descend on Canada’s capital for the Ottawa Bluesfest (I don’t get paid to report it as the RBC Royal Bank Bluefest, and no one in their right mind actually calls it that in the real world). The lineup was just announced and features acts such as Snoop Dogg (with hologram Tupac? probably not), Iron Maiden, Tiësto, Skrillex, Alice Cooper, Seal (!?!), Lauryn Hill, Metric, Norah Jones, Beirut, The Weeknd, Deltron 3030, Mastodon, Dirty Projectors, Thievery Corporation, Paul Oakenfold, MSTKRFT, Chromeo, !!!, Blitzen Trapper, and all your favourite other blues artists. The party kicks off at LeBreton Flats Park shortly after Canada Day. Make sure you see Seal for me! Also, let’s hope things go better than last year’s stage collapse….

Jack White + Disney = Lone Ranger Soundtrack

Since Jack White has stopped collaborating with his 3 bands and is now a solo artist, I guess he’s now considered a lone ranger? Answer: no, stop trying to do lame segues. Hoping to capitalize on their observation, Disney has landed Jack White to write the soundtrack for the new Lone Ranger movie starring Johnny Depp (via NME). Since Johnny Depp can play the guitar, perhaps there is a collaboration in the works?

Jack White has previously worked on the Cold Mountain soundtrack (which led to him dating Renée Zellweger) and he also did a James Bond song, Another Way to Die, with Alicia Keys.

“Jack’s an amazing songwriter with a unique style,” producer Jerry Bruckheimer told Variety. “We’re all very excited to have him on board.” Thanks for the most generic statement possible, Jerry. Jack White just played his first solo show in the UK on Monday night and it was a good one.

Check Out the Inevitable Tupac + Star Wars Mashup. R2-D2 Projects Tupac’s Hologram

There’s been a lot of jokes made about the Tupac hologram that Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg brought out at Coachella this past Sunday night. People have said it looks like something out of Star Wars, and some people even commented that it was like a message that droid R2-D2 would have beamed out. Well, thanks to the magic skill of video editing, we can see what it would look like. Note that this isn’t approved by either Lucasfilm or Aftermath records, so it will likely end up being taken down, like those AT-AT walkers were on Hoth (Star Wars nerd joke!).

The video isn’t just a lazy projection of Tupac out of R2-D2; the editing actually makes the dialogue between the movie and what Tupac “said” look somewhat natural. It also means there is now a black person in Star Wars! Just kidding, I didn’t forget about you, Lando (you backstabbing bastard!).

Watch the video below, and careful for some colourful (NSFW) language.
