Listen! Ultraísta – Bad Insect

Ultraísta are a London trio with one famous member who (unfortunately for the other 2) hogs all of the headlines. Why? Because he’s Radiohead’s super producer, Nigel Godrich, and Radiohead fans like me will always point him out independent of the band (much like how everyone notes that Childish Gambino is Donald Glover from Community/30 Rock). That aside, we get to hear our third song ahead of their debut, following that of Smalltalk and Static Light.

I hate making a Radiohead comparison, but to me the sound of the beat of Bad Insect initially reminds me of Radiohead’s Punch Up at a Wedding, then drifts to the dreamy synth ending of Kid A. After that, it’s all Ultraísta, as the beat transforms to an upbeat, complex and layered song, with beats also thrown down by producer Joey Waronker, and fine vocals from Laura Bettinson. The album is out on October 2. Check out Bad Insect below.
