Listen! Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – Shoot A Hole Into The Sun

Noel Gallagher found success again, with his post-Oasis debut album, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. Noel also mentioned that he is doing a “far out” experimental album with electronica psychedelic act, Amorphous Androgynous. You can listen to the first track, Shoot a Hole Into the Sun, which is a B-side on the new Noel single, Dream On.

The song is definitely a departure for Noel’s straightforward rock songs, and a much needed one at that. If you look at the career arcs of big British bands around that time, specifically Damon Albarn/Blur and Thom Yorke/Radiohead, the latter have had far greater critical success than Noel has. They haven’t made the same album over and over again, and have collaborated with very different musicians from lots of genres. And while I love Noel/Oasis, and I do love hearing the made-for-arena choruses, I have been wanting to see what else Noel can see.

That being said, the single is a tad too long (8 minutes) and repetitive, but it is a step in the right direction, and I’m definitely anticipating the album.
