Morning Music Notes – How Do These People Meet??

Noel Gallagher Webchat Today

Noel Gallagher, who at times has admitted he is clueless when it comes to computers and the internet, is hosting a webchat today. Let’s hope someone is helping him set it up, or else your questions definitely won’t get answered. You can join the fun starting at 2pm EST / 7pm BST at his facebook page, facebook.com/noelgallaghermusic. Alternatively, you can flood twitter with the #AskNoel hashtag. Since Liam has just sued Noel the past few days, it should make for an interesting webchat.

Bono Does Not Have a Heart Problem

One (first word U2 reference bonus points!) has to love the internet and its ability to spread rumours at lightning spread. First, I read that Bono from U2 was having emergency heart surgery. Then it spread to multiple news sources. It must be true, right? And now, the denial from Bono/U2 themselves. Bono was having a routine check up (via Gigwise). I will not end this paragraph with a lame Mysterious Ways reference in a serious manner – I have Grace.

#NowPlaying

An estimated 0.2 of all daily tweets contain the hashtag NowPlaying (via Digital Music News). Sure, the percentage might be low, but the number of tweets is massive – approximately 84 million!

“This is thanks to all the music services that allow users to automatically push their music onto their Twitter account,” Twusic founder Amaury Lesplingart emailed Digital Music News over the week (Twusic = Twitter + Music).

“Twusic has some dazzling ideas to solve that problem, like a #nowplaying radio station that uses YouTube clips.”

Unfortunately, the ideas have been poor on execution. So if you want to make your first or next million, figure out how to harness these tweets into one simple yet cool idea. I will only take a small percentage of the cut.

Matt & Kim, Soulja Boy, and Andrew WK Together At Last….?!

Music collaborations are an interesting topic. Sometimes, they just make sense. Other times, they are random superstar friends, doing each other a favour, or captializing on one another’s popularity or even crossing genres and selling out (hello Jay-Z and Linkin Park). Then finally, there are those collaborations when you wonder how they even know each other, how they got together, and how they managed to produce a song. These often involve the most random of people, crossing multiple genres, ages, everything. The latest in this category, following the Mick Jagger/Joss Stone/Damian Marley ‘supergroup’ would have to be the latest single from indie duo Matt & Kim, musician turned motivational speaker Andrew WK, and 21 year old rapper Soulja Boy.
